Hi, my name is Browny, and I'm an ISA BROWN chicken. Here I am at the picnic table outside.

In this picture, I'm just short of maturity, since my comb and cheeks are
not yet red. They turned red when I matured
and was ready to lay eggs. I'm living inside at this point, talk about a
nice coop!
This is my chick picture
where I'm
on the one on the right. The other chick is a broodmate buddy of mine, who
was killed while free ranging.
I quickly grew by, by eating my feed I grew
very quickly to the point where I was allowed out to free range in the back
yard,
when my brood buddy was killed,
leaving me all alone
. I escaped
by running and flying away to hide. Now I'm kept inside my cage, until next
summer when I'll be big enough to go outside again.
On December 27, 1996 I successfully laid my first egg! I've been trying all this week, but I needed more calcium in my diet, in order to form the shell. I'm now eating layer feed fortified with added oyster shell and grit.
This is my coop where I live
those are golf ball decoys in my nest! I spend most of the day
free ranging in the backyard, or climbing on the
picnic table.
My owners name is John, and I moved in with him in August 96.

Brownie was killed by a preditor, presumably a raccoon, just before labor day 1997. The coon reached in to the new coop and reached down and tore off the top of her head while she was roosting. She lived long enough for me to find her, hold her, and tell her what a good chicken she was. I then put her out of her misery. She will be missed, you never forget your first chicken.
